Mwili wa mtu aliyeuawa na mamba katika Ziwa Baringo, Kenya mwezi December inasemekana umezikwa bila idhini ya  familia ya mtu huyo.

“Inatolewa inapelekwa mahali pengine ambayo hata hatujui ni ajabu sana… Sisi tumesema tunataka mwili wa mtoto wetu, tunataka mwili wa mtoto wetu mara moja” alisema ndugu wa marehemu.

Familia hiyo iliandaa kaburi la kumzika ndugu yao lakini ikashindikana kutokana na mwili wake kukosekana katika chumba cha kuhifadhia maiti ambapo inasemekana kuwa baada ya Polisi kufika katika eneo ambalo mtu huyo aliuawa na mamba, waliwaamrisha ndugu zake wasiufuate mwili huo kwa kuwa walikuwa wakiupeleka kuufanyia upasuaji ili kuweza kubaini kifo chake, lakini baadaye ndugu walipokea taarifa ya ndugu yao kuzikwa kwenye kaburi la siri.

“Mpaka sasa wazee wakasema okay chukueni miti ili ipresent huo mwili, ukiletwa  inatolewa, hatuwezi kuchimba kaburi bila mtu… hii kaburi atakula watu sasa kwetu” alisema ndugu mwingine wa marehemu.

UONGOZI WA ARSENAL WAZURU KWA KUENDELEZA SOKA NCHINI

Uongozi  wa Timu ya Soka ya Arsenal kutoka nchini Uingereza umezuru Tanzania kwa ajili kuhamasisha na kuendeleza soka hapa nchini.

Akizungumza na waandishi wa habari jijini Dar es salaam leo, Mkurugenzi wa Uhusiano na Maendeleo wa timu  hiyo ,Sam Stone amesema kuwa Tanzania ni  nchi ya sita kwa ukubwa katika bara la Afrika hivyo watasaidia katika kukuza soka nchini.

Amesema kesho watakuwa na mazungumzo na Rais wa Shirikisho la  Mpira wa Miguu nchini (TFF),Jamal Malizi juu ya uendeleza soka nchini.

Amesema katika ziara hiyo wanatarajia kukutana na makampuni 20 kwa ajili ya masuala ya biashara katika kuongeza uwigo zaidi kati timu na wadau wengine katika nchi ya Tanzania .

Kwa upande wa Meneja wa Uhusiano na Maendeleo wa timu ya Arsenal Daniel Willey amesema wataendelea kutafuta wadau zaidi na kuendeleza soka nchini kwani Tanzania ni nchi ambayo ni kubwa inaweza kwenda mbele katika mafanikio ya soka.

Dar es Salaam. Mwanariadha nyota na bingwa wa dunia wa mita 100, Usain Bolt  kutoka Jamaica amealikwa kushiriki mbio za kimataifa za FBI zitakazofanyika kwa mara ya kwanza nchini.

Mbio hizo zimeandaliwa na mwandaaji wa kimataifa, Al Franken na mwanae Don zikilenga kumuenzi mwanariadha wa zamani, Filbert Bayi ambaye aliweka rekodi kwenye mbio za maili moja ambazo zimeitwa Miracle Mile.

Tayari, maandalizi ya mbio hizo yameanza na zitafanyika kwa usimamizi wa Shirikisho la Riadha la Dunia (IAAF), Riadha Tanzania (RT), klabu ya michezo ya Hanang na Taasisi ya Filbert Bayi (FBF).

Akizungumza na gazeti hili, Katibu Mkuu wa klabu ya Hanang Wilhelm Gidabuday alisema lengo la mbio hizo ni kuwaenzi wanariadha waliowahi kuiletea sifa nchi na kusisitiza kuwa tayari amemaliza tofauti yake na Bayi na Suleiman Nyambui kwa manufaa ya Taifa.

“Kuanzishwa kwa mbio za FBI lilikuwa ni wazo langu na Franken, japo awali sikutaka kulifanya kutokana na tofauti niliyokuwa nayo na Bayi na Nyambui japo mwandaaji hakuwahi kujua tofauti hiyo.

“Hata hivyo, sikuona sababu ya kuendelea na mgogoro huo na kulazimika kuweka tofauti zetu pembeni na tayari nimezungumza na Bayi na Nyambui nao wameridhia mbio hizi zifanyike,” alisema Gidabuday.

Alisema kuwa tayari Franken ameridhia mbio hizo zifanyike Tanzania na ameeleza kuwaleta nyota wa riadha wa dunia akiwamo Bolt, raia wa Jamaica anayetamba kwenye mbio fupi za mita 100, 200 na 400.

“Mbio za FBI zitakuwa za viwanjani kuanzia mbio za mita 100 hadi 10,000, kinachofanyika ni kuziombea IAAF ili ziwe katika orodha ya mbio kubwa za kimataifa,” alisema.

375,000 Students Pass Form II Exams, Matokea Haya Hapa

The National Examinations Council of Tanzania (Necta) yesterday released the Form Two National Examination results for 2014 which shows a 3.32 per cent increase in the passing rate.

The results showed that 375,434 out of 405,204 candidates (92.66 per cent) who sat for the exams passed compared to 422,446 candidates out of 472.833 (89.34 per cent) who had passed in the previous year. Among those who passed in the examination conducted between November 24 and December 5 last year include 195,328 girls and 180,106 boys.

Necta executive secretary Charles Msonde told journalists in the city that despite such improvement, mathematics, pure science subjects, agriculture and business continued to be the least passed subjects with many candidates scoring an average of below 50 per cent. He named subjects in which most candidates achieved best performance as Civics, History, Kiswahili and English Language where more than 84 per cent of the total candidates passed.

“The highest performed subject is History in which 90.71 per cent of students passed, while Mathematics remained the least performed one with only 18.15 students attaining the passing grades, meaning that continuous effective measures are required to improve performance in it,” he said.

Dr Msonde added that the results denoted improvement when compared to the previous year’s in the number of those who failed. While in 2013 some 10 per cent of those who did the exams failed, only seven per cent or 29,770 candidates failed last year.

He added that 453,191 candidates were registered to sit for the exams, but 47,987 (10.60 per cent) students did not write them for various reasons. The passing grade on point shows that 44.66 per cent of the candidates got good passing grades on distinction, merit and credit, while the rest (55.66) will proceed to the next stage with a pass.

The results have also showed that, although the majority of candidates passed in History with various scoring grades, English Language has the highest number of students scoring 100 per cent, with girls beating boys in performance. A total of 26 girls scored 100 in the subject, while boys who attained that mark were only 15.

A total of 11 candidates (6 boys and 4 girls) scored 100 in Mathematics. Candidates also scored 100 per cent in Book keeping (one student), Biology (one student) and Civics (one student).

Come October 2015, here’s a list of qualities of the President we need

It is an election year. Tanzania will mark 20 years of peaceful power transfers since the return of multiparty politics, albeit in all those years there has been no change of the party in power. That as well, might explain in part, the continued stability during power transfers something which has eluded so many countries on the continent.

Considerable political noise has been generated from different sections of the population with regard to the kind of president the country needs to take it forward. There are those who say that the country needs “young” blood at the helm, one who will be capable of finding his/her way and keep a firm foot on the ground in these troubled times. There is no shortage of those who have countered this argument, saying age matters less, and that there are still “old” bloods out there that have an astute grasp of how to move us forward.

The “youth” card has always been part of the mix. Only retired President Mwinyi assumed office at the age of 60. His predecessor, Mwalimu and his successors were below that age when they ascended to the highest political office in the land. And few will forget just how much that card of “youthfulness” was used to great success during election campaigns which propelled President Kikwete to the presidency.

But look at the state of things today.

There are many who are disillusioned and long lost faith in the leaders they elected to office, promising them “better lives for everyone”.

So, is the panacea to all the ills afflicting us today as a country lie in the hands of a “young” president? True, youthfulness has its appeal, and young people are bold and can easily try new things. But such mindset alone doesn’t provide us with all the answers and solutions to the challenges we face today, some of which are as old as the Republic itself.

The issue to be considered here has to be the vision an aspiring President has for the future of this country. This vision has to be accompanied with policies and political slogans grounded in a particular philosophy.

One of the many reasons for the spectacular failure and early paling of the famous “Ari mpya, Nguvu mpya, Kasi mpya” is the fact that there was no philosophy to support it. It was merely an empty, political catch-phrase.

As the geniuses of political campaigns are busy planning what to come up with next, it will be better for all of us if they remembered to add substance, not only style and flare into the slogans.

The person who better qualifies to lead this country come October, should be one who understands the dangers staring us in the face, the things which could tear this country apart, and there are many.

Natural resources. Perhaps only Democratic Republic of the Congo can lay a better claim than Tanzania when it comes to be endowed with natural riches on the continent. But despite more than a decade of economic liberalization, the tangible benefits of these riches have not “trickled” down to those who live amongst them. Our political leaders have been quick to give outrageous responses when asked about their management of these resources, when asked to tell the people through their parliamentarians, what exactly is our share of the riches.

With our current handling of things, we are walking through a precipice, and depending on how we handle this, it could bring out the very best in us or the very worst.

We need a President who has the vision to improve the lot of the voters although not at the expense of investors.

For now, it is us who are owed.

National debates about the future direction of the country needs a President who will not use the sheer numbers of their MPs to make big decisions even though such decisions affect every one of us. In the end, those who are excluded in these decisions can and will not feel as part of the envisioned future, and that will leave a country bitterly polarized.

We need a President who will guide us, show us the way, but from time to time, who should accept being shown where the way is. It happens; a President is just human as well. He or she cannot claim monopoly on all knowledge and wisdom.

Above all, we need our brains when it comes to voting in October.
